Edna says about this picture: "This is my mother (Sylvia Drake) & father (Edwin Rice) taken in 1884 on Mother's 17th birthday. Dad was
22. After the Drake family moved west from Navoo, Illinois with the Mormon train, mother was born while they were crossing the Mississippi River. It was shallow at the time in places. This picture
was made from a small tin-type about 1955. She made the dress she is wearing herself--mostly by hand.
